Pastor John's travel itinerary for the more visually inclined.
April 2-3 Los Angeles to São Paulo, Brazil (12 hours in air). Many think of Brazil as "somewhere down south, just below Mexico." If you'll notice, as an example, the city of São Paulo is situated some points east of the eastern US. If you drew a straight line directly south of New York City, you would wind up in Colombia.
April 3-8 Traveling within the states of São Paulo and Paraná. It's estimated that 80% of the Nikkei (Japanese Brazilian) population nationally live in these two states. That's 80% of 1.7 million residents of Japanese descent.
April 9 - 15 Three country swing: from Brazil to Asunción, Paraguay to Buenos Aires, Argentina and return to São Paulo, Brazil. Both Asunción and Buenos Aires are their nations' capitals.
April 16-20 Working in the city of São Paulo, which is the largest city in Brazil, in South America and in the southern hemisphere. Nikkei population in the city of São Paulo is 665,000. (So as not to be confused here, São Paulo is the name of both the city and the state. The city of São Paulo is located in the state of São Paulo, much like New York City is in the state of New York).
The greater São Paulo region or metropolitan São Paulo has a population of 27 million people, making it the third largest city in the world. The immensity of the city will require some creativity for PJ to get around. Please pray for transportation connections to meetings and appointments.
While working in the city of São Paulo, I will be based and housed at the headquarters office of the Evangelical Holiness Church of Brazil in the neighborhood of Vila Mariana (Holiness headquarters building indicated by red box above).
