Driving by faith

It was the first time I've done any long-distance driving since beginning dialysis and I honestly felt daunted by the idea of driving solo up to northern California. Although I made an effort to find a driving buddy, I had no success finding anyone to ride shotgun for the quick two-day trip.

I recall making a visit to a Bible study in Santa Clara and driving the same route. At my normal rest stop, Casa de Fruta, along highway 152 (Pacheco Pass), I parked intending to close my eyes for a few minutes. I ended up sleeping for almost three hours. That was three years ago. Recalling that experience, I was a bit concerned about my stamina for this trip given the new complication of the big D.

Praise God! Along with taking some timely stops to shoot some amateur travel videos, a couple of venti frappuccinos and the kindness of my pal, Dave Suh who kept me company on the phone for two hours, I was able to go and return safely.

My visit with Pastor Curt Ogawa and with the Orchard Valley Christian Church was a blessing as I was able to reconnect with prayer and financial partners there. Their generosity and hospitality was very warm and special. My message was a reminder of the gospel's purpose to extend the good news of Jesus to the sometimes forgotten segment of our community: the broken, forsaken, those who have experienced failure in one way or another, those who have been marginalized.
